Whitestone, a neighborhood in northern Queens, lies between the Whitestone and Throgs Neck Bridges overlooking the East River to the north. Founded in 1645, Whitestone was once home to Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Rudolph Valentino and other well-known residents. It’s also home to the poet, Walt Whitman, who poetically described his life in Whitestone, “Every morning, I am kissed by the sun coming through my window by the bay of Whitestone.”
Most of the homes in Whitestone are single and multi-family houses, ranging from Tudors to Colonials, with condo and co-op buildings in the Beechhurst section in the northeast. It’s also home to The Bridges at Whitestone, a custom-built planned development of 44 new single family brick homes. Water recreation, walking and bike paths can be found at Francis Lewis Park and Little Bay Park with beach access at Booster Beach. Express buses provide an easy commute to Manhattan.
